A couple of hours’ drive south of Manila takes you to Tagaytay, a beautiful highland town in the Philippines. With its cool weather, rolling green hills and sweeping views of Taal Lake and Taal Volcano, Tagaytay is a popular escape from the heat and bustle of Manila.

The landscape is particularly beautiful around Picnic Grove. Narrow, winding roads cut through the green hills, while walking trails and viewpoints offer lovely views of the surrounding countryside and the lake beyond.

I took this photograph from the unfinished summer palace of former Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos. Standing high on a ridge, the abandoned palace offers a wonderful view of the winding roads, lush hills and distant waters of Taal Lake.
