Greek mythology tells a tale of unrequited love. Clytie, a water nymph, fell deeply in love with Helios, the Sun God. But when Helios gave his heart to another, Clytie was consumed by endless sorrow. For nine days, her gaze followed the Sun across the sky. At last, she was transformed into a flower, forever turning its face toward the Sun.

Though the flower was not called a sunflower in the original myth, the legend became entwined with it over time.

And so, the sunflower stands as a symbol of eternal longing—a love that finds no fulfilment, yet continues to wait, forever turning toward the light.
